Ingredients

  • 1 cup baking soda

  • ½ cup citric acid

  • 1 tbsp carrier oil of your choosing

  • Essential Oils: 15-20 drops of an essential oil of your choice

    • For specific Essential Oil suggestions, see “Uses”

  • Mold: Preferably silicone mold to make the pods in

Instructions

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a glass, ceramic, or metal bowl, sift together 1 cup of baking soda and ½ cup citric acid. Mix well.

  2. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate small bowl, mix 1 tbsp carrier oil with 15-20 drops of your chosen essential oils.

    • Optional: You can also hold the essential oils and add a couple drops on top of the finished product right before using to customize the oils per use.

  3. Mix Together: Add the oils to the dry ingredients and mix well, using your hands for best results. Continue mixing until the mixture clumps when squeezed in your hand but falls apart when dropped. You may need to add a bit more carrier oil to achieve the desired consistency.

  4. Fill Molds: Firmly press the mixture into the molds to ensure it stays together and fills all empty spaces.

  5. Let Dry: Allow the pods to dry completely for at least 24 hours.

  6. Remove Pods: After 1-2 days of drying, remove the pods from the molds and they are ready for use.

Uses

These All-Purpose Essential Oil Pods can be used in various ways:

  • Bath Bombs: Use one or a few in your bath for a relaxing evening. They can also be used in a foot soak if you prefer. Oil Suggestions: Bergamot and Roman Chamomile.

  • Shower Melts: Add the oils to the pod right before the shower. Place it on the shower floor where it will get wet but isn’t directly under the water stream. This will allow for a relaxing aromatherapy shower where the oils are gradually released. Oil Suggestions: Eucalyptus and Lavender.

  • Toilet Cleaners: Drop one in the toilet and let it fizz away, cleaning as it goes. Oil Suggestions: Lemon and Eucalyptus.

  • Garbage Disposal Deodorizers: Toss one or a few into the garbage disposal, add a small stream of water, turn it on, and let it work. Follow with a flush of water. Oil Suggestions: Orange and Peppermint.

  • Fridge Air Fresheners: Place a few on a small plate in the back of your fridge to absorb unsavory smells. Refresh the oil occasionally and replace them every couple of months. Oil Suggestions: A Citrus with a little bit of Vanilla.

  • Fizzy Bath Salts: Crush up your broken pods and add to Epsom salts at a 2:1 ratio (Epsom salt: powder). Add more carrier oil and essential oils, stir, and add to your bath. Oil Suggestions: Tea Tree and Lavender.
